Blue DeForrest: A Lifetime of Rhythm and Resonance
Blue DeForrest has dedicated over three-quarters of a century to imprinting his unique artistic identity onto the rich tapestry of American music. Born in Franklin, PA, his early life was characterized by a nomadic spirit, a constant exploration of the nation's diverse regions. He traversed the expansive plains of Texas and Kansas, immersing himself in the vibrant artistic communities of California, and experiencing the dynamic energy of the Mohawk Valley in upstate New York.
This varied and formative background served as the fertile ground for a musical journey that commenced in 1964, when he first discovered the allure of the guitar. By 1972, he had fully embraced the powerful, rhythmic foundation of the bass guitar, a pivotal decision that would shape the trajectory of his professional career for many years. This led to the creation of his first professional musical ensemble, The Variations. Demonstrating an enduring thirst for creative growth, Blue expanded his musical horizons in 2013 by mastering the art of keyboards, skillfully infusing his performances with a new dimension of melodic depth and sophistication. Before returning to West Virginia in 2022, Blue held the position of keyboardist for the J3 Vocal Band, a well-regarded show group based in Avon Park, Florida, and known for their captivating performances in theaters across South Florida.
Initially envisioning a period of relaxation and enjoyment during his retirement, Blue found his creative wellspring resurfacing with an irresistible force, mirroring his passion for songwriting that had flourished as far back as 1993.
Today marks a fresh and exciting chapter for Blue DeForrest; a day brimming with the spontaneous inspiration of new musical ideas, arrangements skillfully crafted through his innate musicality, and lyrics that flow as freely as the mountain streams of his beloved West Virginia.
